People Usually Ask these Questions about Off Road Scooters
Have you decided yet? If not, knowing and understanding these questions and answers will further help you decide on why you should buy an off road scooter and what is the best product or brand to buy.
Are Off Road Scooters better than Ordinary Kicks?
This is one of the most asked questions I received mostly from people who have been riding on ordinary kick scooters as they are wondering what is the big advantage of off road scooter over normal kicks. As the question is complex, the answer is also complex. It’s like comparing a jetski to a dingy. Different things have different purposes and this is the reason why off road scooters are different from other commuter rides.
Depending on your purpose, a scooter all terrain could be better than an ordinary kick and vice versa. Here are the big differences though:
- Off road scooter frames are more durable, stronger, and heavier than ordinary rides.
- They are specifically made of rough terrains and dirt so they have stronger frames, decks, and wheels.
- In most cases, dirt rides are more expensive than a normal kick.
- Most models have non-adjustable and non-foldable T-bars and handlebars.
Are Off Road Scooters Safe?
All riding equipment has safety issues when the user/rider is not trained, inexperienced, or reckless and careless. Having said so, all-terrain rides inflict more injuries than normal kicks scooters not because of the scooter itself but because of the activity of the rider. Remember that off road scooters are built to be used in rough terrain and difficult roads and hills. Especially when going downhill, the pull of gravity can be stronger leading to some unexpected accidents like falling into the cliff, bumping big rocks, and hitting trees.
Safety gear is always required when using an all-terrain ride. All sorts of accidents that could lead to a multitude of injuries are always present especially when you are inside natural parks where few people could see you when you are involved in an accident. Preparation and prevention are always better than countermeasure.
Are Off Road Scooters Good for Daily Commuting?
These scooters are specifically designed for off-roading only and there are also models labeled as “all-terrain”. All terrain scooters can be used both in rural and urban scooting. You always have the choice of which of these equipment you want depending on your specific purpose and activities.
Do I need to Know How to Use a Kick Scooter Before Buying an Off Road Scooter?
Any type of two-wheel vehicle is easy to learn to ride and there is not really a prerequisite to buying an off-road or an all-terrain model. If you are motivated and inspired by other people who enjoy scooting in the middle of the woods or in a rocky desert, then buy your own off-road ride and try what they are doing.
But if your plan is to use the scooter for both commuting and offroading, then all-terrain is for you. You can’t do off-roading on a normal kick so you better start with an all-terrain model. Just make sure you know the difference between the two.
How to Maintain an Off Road Scooter?
If you already own a kick scooter you should’ve known this but if not, continue reading. Taking care of an all-terrain ride is quite different than having an urban kick scooter, especially when you have an electric off road scooter.
Like many other rides, they have movable parts like wheels and bearings on T-bars that need maintenance. Here’s how to care for and maintain your all-terrain ride.
- Always keep your scooter all terrain indoors like inside the garage or in your room. Different weather conditions could expedite the wear and tear of equipment if it is exposed outside.
- Always check the wheels and bearings before you use them, especially if you are a heavy user. Heavy user means you are doing high-impact landings. Wheels could be broken so better check every moving part before using it again.
- Always check for loose bolts and nuts.
- Clean your scooter before long storage. If there is mud and dirt, clean it with water and wipe it dry. Off road scooters are always bathing with all sorts of dirt and mud so make sure to wash them thoroughly after use.
- Replace any non-conforming parts. Using a scooter with defective parts could cause injuries.
- If you have an electric all-terrain ride, make sure to follow the maintenance manual.
I Want an Off-Road Ride that is Adjustable and Foldable. Is this possible?
Right now I can’t seem to find an all-terrain model for adults that is foldable and adjustable. The reason is that dirt scooters are made for hard impact and if the product is foldable and adjustable, they may break easily.
If you really need something like this then you must contact companies that build custom products. Unfortunately, I cannot give you a specific builder but a quick Google search would give you some good results.
I know a number of friends who own custom off-road rides. There are also some companies who sell parts with manuals on how to assemble it yourself like my pro scooter store online.
There are also people who assemble things like off-road bikes. You can see them on YouTube and contact them to get more details and ideas. Nothing is impossible though.
Are All Terrain Scooters Repairable? Are there any Replacement Parts for these Rides?
All types of scooters are repairable and parts are replaceable. The most common parts that are frequently replaced are the wheels, bearings, and brake mechanisms. This is understandable because the wheels are the ones that absorb all the heavy beating and hard impacts. Another part is the bearings on the T-bar and also the rear brake.
These parts are always available online or in your local skates, bikes, and scooters stores. Some stores also offer repair services. If you are worried that you don’t know how to replace a certain part then you contact your nearest scooter shop. If you have an electric model, batteries are always available.
Conclusion
Although off road scooters are built for heavy-duty usage, proper care and handling are still needed to prolong its life. If you value your equipment and your money, ride properly and responsibly. I saw a lot of people jumping from hills having their rides broken into pieces because they want to achieve something they can’t like trying to jump into a very deep slope – the result is always a disaster; either a broken bone or a broken scooter. As mentioned, these equipment are classified according to their uses. If you need it for your daily commute then you should not buy an off-road but have a normal 2-wheel kick instead.
Unlike normal kicks scooters, off-road model prices are diverse. There are some cheap and there are four times more expensive than the cheapest. There are many reasons why there is a big difference in their prices. Brand, quality, designs, colors, etc contributed to the price factor. Select only what is best for you and what you can afford. At the end of the day, no money is worth paying for your enjoyment! But of course, if you have extra money, buying the most durable model and design is suggested as these types of rides are designed to last.
Lastly, when buying an off-road ride for kids who are just starting to learn to ride, the price and quality are the two things you must consider. There are many scooters that are expensive but offer the same quality as other brands that are cheaper. Reading reviews like this is always a great help especially for first-time buyers.
